संकीर्तन वह होता है, जिसमें राग-रागिनियों के साथ उच्च स्वर से नामका गान किया जाय। भगवान् के नामके सिवाय उनकी लीला, गुण, प्रभाव आदि का भी कीर्तन होता है, परन्तु इन सबमें नाम-संकीर्तन बहुत सुगम और श्रेष्ठ है।
नाम-संकीर्तन में ताल-स्वर सहित राग-रागिनियों के साथ जितना ही तल्लीन होकर ऊँचे स्वर में नामका गान किया जाय, उतना ही वह अधिक श्रेष्ठ होता है।

भगवान् ने मनुष्य को ऐसी योग्यता दी है, जिससे वह तत्त्वज्ञान को प्राप्त करके मुक्त हो सकता है; भक्त हो सकता है; संसार की सेवा भी कर सकता है और भगवान् की सेवा भी कर सकता है। यह संसार की आवष्यकता की पूर्ति भी कर सके और भगवान् की भूख भी मिटा सके, भगवान् को भी निहाल कर सके-ऐसी सामर्थ्य भगवान् ने मनुष्य को दी है! और किसी को भी ऐसी योग्यता नहीं दी, देवताओं को भी नहीं दी।

भगवान् को भूख किस बात की है?
