Bhagavad Gita 3.38

Bhagavad Gita 3.38: Verse 38

Gist

The way fire is covered by smoke, mirror by dust and embryo by womb, the true intellect is clouded over by desires.

Explanation

  2. As compared to other body forms human body has finely developed intellect but due to the existence of various desires the intellect doesn’t work properly. However, as the fire remains alive despite being covered by smoke, the intellect can still work effectively if the seeker grows alert as soon as the desire raises its head.
  3. The remedy for people with lust has been given as ‘Karma yoga’ in Srimad Bhagwatam ( 11.20.7); but in the next verse itself Krishna says that if the person develops faith in listening to my pastimes and chanting My name then he should adopt the path of My loving devotional service. Hence, people with desires should not feel disheartened. Only the one who has desires will get rid of them; this is a rule of nature.
