Bhagavad Gita 5.1: Verse 1
अर्जुन उवाच
संन्यासं कर्मणां कृष्ण पुनर्योगं च शंससि।
यच्छ्रेय एतयोरेकं तन्मे ब्रूहि सुनिश्चितं।।5.1।।
भावार्थ - Gist
अर्जुन बोले- हे कृष्ण! आप कर्मों के संन्यास की और फिर कर्मयोग की प्रशंसा करते हैं। इसलिए इन दोनों में से जो एक मेरे लिए भलीभाँति निश्चित कल्याणकारक साधन हो, उसको कहिए॥5.1॥
Arjuna Said: O Krishna! You first praise renunciation of actions in their visible form, and then you sing the praises of Karmayoga (performing actions for the benefit of others); kindly explain to me that one spiritual practice out of these two which is for my certain good.
व्याख्या - Explanation
प्रायः वक्ता के शब्दों का अर्थ श्रोता अपने विचार के अनुसार लगाया करते हैं। क्योंकि अर्जुन स्वजनों के मोह के कारण युद्ध नहीं करना चाहते थे, उन्हें प्रतीत हुआ कि कृष्ण कर्मों का स्वरूप से त्याग करने की बात कह रहे हैं और तत्त्वज्ञान प्राप्त करने की प्रशंसा कर रहे हैं।
Often the listener interprets the speaker according to his own view point. Arjuna did not want to fight with his close family members due to his illusory attachment for them; consequently he interpreted Krishna’s words as asking him to quit actions in themselves and placing knowledge of Truth on a higher level.
