Bhagavad Gita 11.5

अर्जुन ने कृष्ण से उनका एक ऐश्वर-रूप दिखाने की प्रार्थना की थी और उसे दिखाने को कृष्ण की इच्छा पर छोड़ दिया था। पर कृष्ण उनको सैकड़ों-हजारों रूपों को देखने की बात कहते हैं। इससे सिद्ध होता है कि कृष्ण की इच्छा पर छोड़ने से साधक को जो लाभ होता है, वह अपनी इच्छा और बुद्धि से नहीं होता। कारण कि मनुष्य कितनी ही विद्याएँ सीख ले, शास्त्र पढ़ ले, उसकी बुद्धि तुच्छ, सीमित ही रहती है। अपना अभिमान करके साधक भगवान् को जानने में आड़ ही लगाता है। वह जितना समझदार बनता है, उतना ही बेसमझ है। वह जितना निरभिमान होता है, उतना ही समझदार होता है।

Arjun had prayed to Krishna to show His one glorious form, and left the decision on Krishna’s will. This proves that the benefit a man receives when he surrenders his own will to Krishna is far greater than what he can gain by his own will and intellect. The reason is that however many systems of knowledge we may learn, however many sacred books we may study, our intellect remains as low and limited as ever. Through pride in his own abilities the striver only places obstructions in the path of God-realization. The wiser he considers  himself , the stupider he is in reality. Only the striver who posseses true humility can be considered truly wise.
