Bhagavad Gita 16.9: Verse 9

एतां दृष्टिमवष्टभ्य नष्टात्मानोऽल्पबुद्धयः।
प्रभवन्त्युग्रकर्माणः क्षयाय जगतोऽहिताः।।16.9।।

भावार्थ - Gist

इस (पूर्वोक्त) (नास्तिक) दृष्टि का आश्रय लेने वाले जो मनुष्य अपने नित्य स्वरूप को नही मानते, जिनकी बुद्धि तुच्छ है, जो उग्र कर्म करने वाले (और) संसार के शत्रु हैं, उन मनुष्यों की सामर्थ्य का उपयोग जगत् का नाष करने के लिये ही होता है। ॥16.9॥

These (previously cited) perverted souls who, having lost the vision of God, have also lost themselves, such men of feeble intelligence and violent deeds, flourish in world; their capacity is employed solely for the deprivation and destruction of the world.

व्याख्या - Explanation

(1) आत्मा की चेतन सत्ता को वे मानते नहीं। वे इस बात को मानते हैं कि जैसे कत्था और चूना मिलने से एक लाली पैदा हो जाती है, ऐसे ही भौतिक तत्त्वों के मिलने से एक चेतनता पैदा हो जाती है। उनकी दृष्टि में जड़ ही मुख्य है।
(2) उनका विवेक अत्यन्त तुच्छ होता है। कमाओ, खाओ, पीओ और मौज करो- यही उनका विचार होता है। भविष्य और परलोक में क्या होगा, ये बातें उनकी बुद्धि में नहीं आती, परन्तु अनादि वस्तुओं के संग्रह में उनकी बुद्धि बड़ी तेज होती है। अपनी पूरी शक्ति दूसरों का नाश करने में ही लगाते हैं, चाहे अपना स्वार्थ कितना ही सिद्ध हो, पर उन्हें दूसरों की उन्नति नहीं सुहाती। दूसरों का नाश करने में, जान से मार देने में उन्हें प्रसन्नता होती है।

  1. Such persons deny the spiritual entity of sentient nature. Their theory of origin of the world is totally materialistic— they declare that the world and all its creatures are the outcome of a union of physical elements, a chemical reaction which erupts in the form of life.
  2. Their so called intellect is utterly contemptible. The only objective of life, according to them, is to earn money, eat, drink and enjoy all the available pleasures. It never enters their head that there is a law and a fate awaiting them; but that same intelligence is very sharply active in the amassing of worldly goods.They apply all their strength solely in bringing about the destruction of others. Even if their own selfish ends are fulfilled, they cannot endure the progress of others. They derive pleasure out of the harassment of others, even out of killing their fellow-beings.
